Ministry Updates from the Mirone Family
Dear friends and partners,

Here's our newsletter in its new format. It is more general; however, regularly, it will focus on a different ministry (or ministries) that we are involved in worldwide.

As we close the year 2024, we can only express our gratitude for what God has accomplished in recent months:
  • The birth of our granddaughter Esther in February, in the home of Camille and Jonathan. She adds to the joy of our family gatherings.
  • Lucas & Johanna's wedding in September and the testimony they left for all their guests. L&J are now in Bordeaux, pursuing their studies. They have joined a young and dynamic CAEF (Evangelical Communities and Assemblies of France) church plant just down the street from their home.
  • In one year, Silas completed two years of school, finishing middle school, and started at a private high school in Rumilly a year early.
This fall, at the local level, we are grateful for two people we are discipling:
  • Along with a few Rivage team members and in partnership with the CCAS (Center Communal d'Action Sociale, a local organization that supports the most disadvantaged), we accompanied a man whose health had been affected by COVID. During one of our last conversations, as he lay on his deathbed, Alain confided in me that he was “nurturing his relationship with Jesus Christ”. 🙏 These words gripped me with emotion. His resistance up until then stemmed from the fact that he feared the hypocrisy of turning to God only at the end of his life, but we know what promise Jesus made to one of the robbers on the cross.
  • For the past few weeks, a woman from the gospel choir, Julie*, has been attending the small group we host every week at home. She was invited by two small group members, who she is friends with. Julie is a high school physics teacher, Cartesian and deeply searching. Please pray for her.

Since our last update

Jonathan & Camille, Esther
Lucas & Johanna - 28/09/24
Thierry and his colleague Sam had the privilege of teaching the Master of Missiology students in N'Djamena in November. These students are deployed in various Central African countries and are carrying out a fruitful ministry.

Challenges

Thierry is planning to pursue a Master's degree in "Church, Mission and World Christianity" as part of the All Nations distance learning program in England, which corresponds to a Master's degree in “Church Planting” integrating a cultural and international component.
A 2-year option is available, with 2 days a week for 6 months of the year. This program is particularly relevant as it is mainly followed by people already deployed in the field. Its content would enable Thierry to fine-tune the way he accompanies workers and partners in different contexts around the world.

The cost of the course is estimated at 18,000 euros (18,775 USD) for the two years, including participation in the 2 intensive courses offered each year on site near London.

If you would like to support us for this specific project, you can go through Encompass via this link, indicating “Thierry Mirone - Masters Degree” in the "+ Add special instructions" section in the Checkout.

Support

At every stage of our ministry, we take on new challenges and accompany more and more people as they serve here and there. These commitments involve both financial and prayerful support. We marvel at how God meets these needs as we strive to faithfully carry on His work.

Your partnership has been instrumental in everything we've accomplished so far, and we're deeply grateful for your trust and commitment. We humbly ask for your continued prayers and financial support, so that our mission can continue to expand here and to the ends of the earth.

"Using creative means to reach the least-reached"
Ministry Updates from the Mirone Family
Dear friends and partners,
"Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." - Romans 12:15

The summer season allows us to slow down our travel schedule and focus on hospitality and local relationships. This gives Thierry the opportunity to spend time with a group of sports friends who have been affected by the sudden death of a mutual friend. This friend’s widow has asked us to help her prepare for the ceremony, which will take place next Tuesday. Please join us in prayer that we may be a living witness in the midst of this time of mourning.

In addition, dear friends and colleagues are facing serious illnesses, leading us to fight alongside them through prayer. 🙏🙏🙏

This summer, we also want to take the opportunity to recharge our batteries before what promises to be a busy fall.

Some Major Projects

Here are a few areas of work that we're excited about:

  • Cambodia: Thierry will join Etienne & Myriam Patin (and their son Ezra) in Battambang to assess the viability of their future work at the student ministry center. Another strategic trip to the country is scheduled for early 2027.
  • Nepal: Florent Varak and Thierry are planning a trip to Gumi and central Nepal, both to lead a conference for pastors, church elders, and new students, and to assess the feasibility of supporting church-planting projects.
  • France: We pray that the valleys in the Alps may shine with the Gospel, particularly in Rumilly; please pray for workers.
  • Spain (Basque Country) and Ireland (Dublin): Thierry is responsible for overseeing the church-planting projects currently being developed in these European countries.
  • Team Members: We are supporting several team members deployed in various countries (Southeast Asia and Central Asia) as they prepare for the next phase of ministry.

Family

Valérie is still working on adapting and translating a book intended to encourage Haitian pastors. It’s a long-term project she’s balancing, along with a few FLE (French as a Foreign Language) classes that she teaches to immigrant workers.

Silas achieved exceptional results on his high school exams in math and French, concluding a very successful year for him.

Lucas is preparing for the bar exam, with the written portion scheduled for the first week of September 🙏. Johanna will soon graduate from engineering school. Both are very active at Le Cube church in Bordeaux, and Lucas delivered his first sermon there a few weeks ago, having been mentored by the church planting team.

Jonathan & Camille are currently living at our home with Yaëlle & Esther. Jonathan is finishing his training with Ryanair this month and will therefore begin flying Boeing 737s with passengers very soon.

The Church

Working with Jonathan (an IBG intern) has been encouraging and has enabled us to carry out several projects that support the dedicated work of the team of elders and deacons. We have just completed a training course on hermeneutics led by Jonathan, consisting of four very successful sessions.

We plan to develop two additional in-house training programs for the upcoming year, as well as a few initiatives aimed at supporting local leadership.

We continue to pray that a project will get off the ground in Rumilly, and we are continuing discussions with potential planters for this project.

Finances

Thank you to all of you who faithfully support us; none of this would be possible without God’s grace through your generosity. We continue to work to make up for the loss of support, and thank you to those who have stepped in to meet this need.

Ministry Updates from the Mirone Family
Dear friends and partners,

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the publication of the booklet Discovering the Bible in 1, 10, 100, 1000 Words, written by Florent Varak.

It is now printed, and we pray that this tool will serve as a means of helping people discover the Gospel.

Family - 1 Win

After years of tenacity, particularly on Valérie's part, we are finally seeing our son Silas flourish at school and really take off.

He is currently a year ahead of schedule. This is an invaluable victory for which we are so grateful.

Finances - 1 Challenge

Our need for support has increased somewhat in recent months due to changes in the circumstances of two of our sponsors, which leads us to communicate specifically on this subject.

We are confident in God's provision and remain focused on the task He has entrusted to us in His service.

A few trips

The period leading up to Christmas will be intense for us, as Thierry will be making several trips to Asia and Europe to develop projects. He will be taking a long-haul flight, which is particularly tiring in the midst of all this traveling.

Thierry will have the pleasure of sharing one of these trips to Cambodia with Etienne Patin, who will be exploring the possibility of a longer-term commitment on site with his family.

Please pray for the Lord's guidance for this family
to whom we are particularly attached.

"Trust in him at all times, you people ; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge" Psalm 62.8

Dear friends and partners,

This fall has been marked by the follow-up of projects and people in fragile situations and has mobilized us strongly in prayer. At the time of writing, we have just received an answer which, even if the struggle continues, represents the most beautiful Christmas gift we have ever received 🙏

We have just experienced such an intense and rich autumn with the follow-up of projects near and far: transition at the Shore, projects in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Nepal, Central Africa, retreat of our team members in Turkey...

All these projects have the same goal, to reflect Christ and his work. What a joy it is to work with brothers and sisters from the four corners of the world, near and far, who are pursuing the same objectives as those we find in Matthew 5:16.

There are many challenges and obstacles, but these do not alter the motivation of our partners and friends in Christ, quite the contrary!

Encompass

The trips have been multiplying in the last few months. The different visits have been encouraging and we had the opportunity to make a retreat with our team members in Turkey at the beginning of November.

"Le Chateau" of St Albain, well known in the French evangelical landscape will close its doors very soon. Seen up close, the history of this site has generated a movement of new church plants throughout Charis France, a movement that continues today. We will be celebrating this history at the castle site in mid-April.

The creativity which emerges from the initiatives taken by the teams of the network of which Thierry is in charge is remarkable. This particularity is a key to reach the most closed countries 🙏. We are convinced that this network is one of the keys allowing to reach the most closed regions of the world.

Le Rivage Church (The Shore)

There is so much to say but we retain 2 key elements:

1/ the transition with Xavier Chandler who has agreed to take a part-time position at Le Rivage! This should be completed in the first half of 2023. The local church sees Xavier as a natural leader, we invite you to pray for him, his family and the church ;

Xavier & Ange, Aaron, Elikia

2/ the small group that started in Chautagne since the beginning of the school year, under the leadership of Jean-Philippe & Nathalie Champendal is promising. We are happy to see the progress being made.

Nepal

We held a new project in Gumi in November to celebrate 16 years of partnership and the ongoing development of the Gumi Bible School and the training courses that are underway or planned.

We all believe that in today's Nepalese context, Bible training is essential. The quality of the training provided and the vision developed by the team in place are remarkable.

Chandra (the director), Lil (the founder), Prakash (the associate director)

Next project scheduled for November 2023 !

If you wish to get involved in the development of the Bible School or support one of the young church planters who are trained there, you can contact me or Jean-Noel Lechelt - jnlechelt@gmail.com

Teaching

Valérie continues her training. Starting in March, she will welcome a foreign couple whom she will teach daily for about ten months.

Thierry continues to teach cross-cultural missiology courses at IBG, DEFI, Online and by invitation. He hopes to spend some time soon finalizing a course on "holistic" approaches with Ben Beckner.

Family

Lucas & Johanna got engaged a few days ago. What a privilege to see them grow up together. They are continuing their respective masters and are looking forward to the next step in 2024.

Jonathan & Camille continue to be invested in church planting in Douvaine (74). Jonathan is progressing in his pilot training and Camille has created her own creative business called "Graine d'espérance".

Silas has been enrolled in a multilingual middle school since the beginning of the school year. This choice corresponds much better to his learning profile for which the local school could not provide a suitable response.

Support

Thank you so much to those who are walking beside us, all this work is only possible because of your faithfulness in your commitment to support us and we want to be worthy of your trust.

"The Good News about the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it ; and then the end will come" Matthieu 24.14

Dear friends and partners,

We are now fully committed with Encompass to develop projects helping to reach the unreached or least-reached people groups. We will continue at 20%-30% working in our local responsibilities (Le Rivage churchplant and IBG “Geneva Bible School” for Thierry and training and counseling ministry for Valérie).

Because of the Covid-19 situation, our time in Atlanta had to be rescheduled and shortened from Jan 1st to June 21, 2021.

Le Rivage

We are so thankful for the leaders in place at the Rivage church in Aix les Bains. With the Niles (our collegues for the church plant), we rejoice to have a great team, not forgetting all the ones trained who have gone to the mission field. It’s a wonderful picture of God’s Grace to see the way He’s at work.

Thierry will continue his responsibilities training and teaching at the Rivage. We’re praying for the Rivage team to be reinforced with a part-time leader for the church.  We’re also praying for an possible future churchplanting project in the surrounding area – maybe Rumilly.

Geneva Bible Institute

Thierry’s involvement at IBG has been very time consuming recently setting up a protocol for the Covid-19 crisis and especially trying to move forward with recruiting a new director for the Bible School.

Thierry teaches "Mission" 2 weeks a year.

Encompass

The ministry with Encompass begins with several projects et partnerships that are already in the beginning stages (Nepal, Tunisia, Africa and many others), still others are already in place (Central Asia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Central Africa, Chad, Cameroun, France...).

Because of all the contacts, there are many possibilities to serve as short term, longer term, or full-time, in France as well as in other countries.  Don’t hesitate to contact us to learn more…

Support

This new chapter is a real challenge, especially with our minimal financial support situation. We stepped into this ministry position by faith to be a part of this new adventure and we know the Lord will undertake what is impossible for us to do ourselves.

Thank you for all those who are already partners with us in this endeaver.

"What is expected of a Christian baker is not to make bread in the shape of a cross, but good bread" According to Martin Luther...

Dear friends and partners,

After months of reflection and prayer, we turn to the new stage to which we are called.

First of all, we rejoice in the years dedicated to the start of the church "Le Rivage" in Aix-les-Bains, it is a beautiful community that we love and to which we are deeply attached.

After various solicitations, we followed up on the proposal of the "Encompass" mission organisation to take over the direction of one of their networks. This network aims to support and accompany the strategy of the teams located in contexts where their vocation to make disciples and plant churches is not or hardly reached.

This choice implies a step of faith in many areas. We are determined to take these risks. Indeed, this corresponds fully to our initial call and to the crying need of unreached or little-reached peoples, especially in the "10/40 window".

The assumption of this new function will be progressive and will be articulated between 80% dedicated to Encompass and 20% for a local work in France which still remains to be specified according to the evolution of the project in Aix-les-Bains. We also envisage a 10-month stay in Atlanta from July 2020 to prepare as best we can for the implementation of this new "missionary" mandate.

Our administrative and financial status remains attached to Perspectives as Partners, but under the authority of Encompass. This will therefore change nothing concerning the modalities of our support  other than that of broadening our base of supporters in view of the requirements of the position.

If you would like to find out more, you can find some details below or contact us on +33 (0)663622203.

Provisional calendar

- November 2019 to April 2020 (transition phase): 50% time to consolidate the leadership transition begun in 2017 at Le Rivage, 50% to develop the ministry strategy for Encompass.
- April to July 2020 (preparatory phase): we will submit a first draft of the action plan for Encompass and also prepare for our 10-month stay in Atlanta. 1/3 of our time will be devoted to finalizing the transition in Aix-les-Bains.
- July 2020 to May 2021: stay in Atlanta and actual start the work for Encompass (subject to obtaining visas).
- May 2021: return to France, Aix-les-Bains or other horizon according to the evolution of the Le Rivage.

Le Rivage

A beautiful team of leaders is in place and we are working on recruiting a person who will be able to accompany the development of the church in the 4/5 stage that we have planned, the one commonly called the "structuring" phase, the word is barbaric for a church that wants to be organic but we are keeping the nomenclature for the sake of consistency.

Our presence in Aix-les-Bains will depend on the result of this recruitment. We will adjust ourselves to what will seem most judicious for the development of the church.

Geneva Bible Institute

At the express request of several members of the Committee, Thierry will continue his mandate as Chairman of the Committee for approximately 3 years in order to ensure the transition linked to the current change of management.

In addition, Thierry continues to teach transcultural missiology to 1st year students. Teaching in cycles 2 and 3 will depend on several parameters, including availability.

Nepal

Several people are continuing the work started in Nepal:
- At present a family is engaged in Gumi, with the team of the bible school.
- Jean-Noel & Suzanne Lechelt will take a team to Gumi for 3 weeks in January 2020
- Pierre & Lena Danis will go to support another Bible school in Anbu Khaireni and maybe also the one in Gumi.

The missionary race carried out by the young people on the occasion of the Easter congress at the IBG makes it possible to complete the construction of the 2nd building of the Bible school of Gumi which trains young leaders from the North-West of the country.

Support

Our commitment to Encompass means that our support is growing. We will adapt to what the Lord will give us, confident that He will provide as He has since we entered the Service in 2000.

Thank you to all those who accompany us in this way on a daily basis. We want to be worthy of this trust.

“God uses ordinary people with ordinary resources to accomplish extraordinary things”

Dear friends and partners,

We’re profiting from this short time away to rest before the busy fall schedule to bring you this update on our life and ministry.  We were very touched by the responses after our report of Valerie’s car accident last June. That little episode shows how much God is faithful in all circumstances.

This coming year will help us evaluate our priorities and decide the direction for our future ministry.  We’re approaching a new cycle for our service and we want to make the right choices. Thank you for your prayers, we will keep you updated with our decisions.

The Rivage church

The leadership of the Aix church plant is becoming progressively a church leadership from within.  This is one of our main focuses for this new year. We are encouraged to see all the talents of those serving as they grow in the Word and help in training the new believers of all ages to grow and discover their gifts to form the community of believers for the sake of the Gospel.

September 2nd is a symbolic date when we will meet together for Sophie’s baptism. She’s a young mother from this area who was touched by the Gospel and gave her heart to Christ. Several people (many of which sing in the Gospel choir) will be present to hear her testimony and discover for the first time the profound meaning of biblical baptism.

We also will have the pleasure of welcoming some new believers who are moving to the area. One of these, Anne-Sophie Marmey, will be with us for one year doing an academic training.

We are facing 2 big challenges that we are asking prayer for :
  • The choice of a building to house our growing church where we can realize some projects that align with the talents and gifts of the people God has given us
  • The preparation for some future church planting projects in the valley

After a successful first year the choir “Gospel Aixpression” is gearing up for a new fall season with a number of new people from the area.  Ella and Nico make up a “dream team” for the proclamation of the Gospel in Aix through the use of Gospel music.

The choir season ended before summer vacation with a choice place to sing the Gospel – right in the center of the city near the monument to the goddess Diane. What an incredible symbolic picture of what God is doing in Aix.

The choir is also involved with important aspects of the life of the Rivage: like Anselme and Myriam’s wedding last June and in a few days the choir will also sing for Sophie’s baptism.

Prison ministry

Thierry continues his commitment as a chaplain at the local prison and is training 2 new candidates like Hubert who is now a full chaplain with his diploma. If these 2 are accepted (a 6-12 month training), Thierry will turn the chaplaincy over to them and then concentrate on organizing different events for the prison.

Népal

The November missions project is fast approaching! We now have 16 participants and we will be forming 2 teams for the ministry in Nepal.

Famille

Jonathan is leaving the family nest ! Having passed his baccalaureate last June with the CNED studies, he is beginning aeronautics training this fall.  He is committed to several years of studies and the first 2 will be alternating between the Paris airport and the nearby city of Cruseilles.

This summer Lucas experienced an unforgettable time in Boston with several family friends. Thanks to all who help with his trip.

Silas participated in a great camp at Champfleuri in July along with two special days in Paris with his parents.

Support

Our boys are going into the phase of higher education, a new step for us to learn to live by faith trusting God every step of the way. We are thankful for the way God takes care of us daily according to His plan.

Thank you to all who follow us regularly. We want to be worthy of your trust.
But as for me and my household,
we will serve the Lord :)

“God uses ordinary people
with ordinary resources
to accomplish extraordinary things”

Dear friends and partners,

Thank you for your faithfulness. These past weeks have been full of surprises and unexpected events. We have had to make important choices that would have cause a big transition in our ministry, which, after deep reflection, we finally decided to decline the offer.

Our deepest desire is to be faithful to God to what he is waiting for us to do.

And now, what's next ? Thank you for praying for us to seek what are the right choices to do in the future.

Le Rivage

We celebrated our 4 years of official existence last January. Overall, the year of 2017 has been really positive : the small groups that are meeting in houses contribute to the growth of all and we are trying to better equip the people that God is trusting us with.

The result of all this work is to see the very same people taking actions that impacts the lives of the people from Aix-Les-Bains.

Nicolas Devins is about to finish his two years of probationary time next summer. After that, Nicolas will be able to take ownership as a leader in the church plant team, which will allow Thierry to have more time to recruit a team for the future church plant in Rumilly (town nearby Aix-Les-Bains, 30 minutes of drive) while coaching and supporting Le Rivage community.

Finally, this Friday we are organizing a movie and discussion with the film "The Case Of Christ" at the local theatre of Aix-Les-Bains at 8pm (local time). It is an amazing opportunity that has been given to us and we are getting ready for this event!

And now, what's next ? Thank you for praying that the Gospel of Jesus Christ would grow and prosper in the Alps.

A concert for the city

After 8 months of existence, the Gospel choir Gospel Aixpression has now around 50 people. The project is now fully part of the community of the town and is being invited often times to perform to different events.

The team in charge of the choir is well established and many doors to shine upon the town are being open. It is such a blessing to see Nicolas and Ella creating this quality work.

And now, whats next ? Pray that the Gospel would grow in the community.

Prison

Over the past few months, Thierry has had the opportunity to train Hubert as a prison chaplain. Hubert is now officially  chaplain of the prison and it is an encouragement and a blessing to work together.

Paradoxically, prisons are a place where the Gospel is especially welcomed. Thierry was able to share the Good News with a young Tibetan this week.

And now, what's next ? Pray for a third person that will join the crew.

Nepal

The project of the November 2018 mission trip is on ! We are sending 2 teams :
  • The first team will support a Nepali couple that work near Gorkha in a region that has been deeply affected by the recent earthquake.
  • The second team will go throughout a route while teaching and encouraging workers and local churches in the North West of the country (from Jumla to Gumi).
And now, what's next ? It is our great joy to see the efforts of these 12 past years being rooted through young Nepali leaders !

Family & Support

Our boys are getting ready to take their high school exams. Jonathan is thinking about studying in the aeronautical field, combining his interests and his work. This training could open doors towards cross-culture mission.

Silas is always excited to discover more and more, he loves to learn and surprises us everyday.

Valerie is working part-time as a French teacher to help with our support. It sometimes conflicts with our church plant commitments but is also a good way to create new contacts.

As we can see in the Word, we want to adapt ourselves to all situations that God is laying down in the front of us.

And now, what's next ?  God is being faithful taking care of us day after day
May our household never stop serving the Lord ! :)

"Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God."

1 Peter 2:16

Dear friends and partners,

A new school year has begun and we are grateful to see all the beautiful things that God has allowed for both our family and ministry.

We had the privilege of sharing time with our Boston friends and partners in August.  It was also a special time to share with the Loconte family to whom we are deeply attached.

It was a privilege to get to know their little Tobias who we miss so much :)

Le Rivage d'Aix-les-Bains

The church is still moving forward and we are preparing for several upcoming initiatives:
  • The pilot group of Gospel Aixpression has become an official choir welcomed by the city.  We were in the heart of the forum of associations "Tutti Frutti" last weekend where the choir presented itself after a speech from city officials.
  • Team 2.2 is a promising group that was established  at Le Rivage last spring.  A group of young 30-somethings has expressed a heart for service and is taking charge. The program is stimulating and rich with this great team!
  • We're preparing the next stage of development for Le Rivage with Nicolas Devins. This year should be one of transition :)
  • We're praying for the next church plants and particularly for one in Rumilly. May God provide a church planting team for this city that needs the Gospel.
  • We are also pleased to welcome a new intern, Etienne Ploquet. We appreciate his hunger for learning and his humble heart. We pray that this internship for him would be a springboard for future ministry.

News from the Vine

This past July the church came together to help a family of young believers, and we saw what a Church can be in a practical and concrete way.

Many people have observed this and have been impacted by this camaraderie.  As one neighbor said, "It's like on TV:  All Together".

It's through this example, and others, that we see the church living out it's moto :

DON'T GO TO CHURCH, BE THE CHURCH :)

“I will tell what the Lord has done!” Ps 118.17

"I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord"

Psaume 118.17

Dear friends and partners,

What adventures we’ve had since our last letter in late October entitled  "Control is an illusion.” In many ways we’ve experience dependence on God - and this is by far what we most desire. What is better than to trust firmly in the hands of the One who alone gives meaning to existence?

Népal

Jonathan and Thierry flew to Nepal for three weeks during which they experienced an incredible miracle after the fall of Jean-Claude (one of the participants) who fell about 50 m (165 ft) from a cliff.  "We have not seen an accident but a miracle!"  This has generated a powerful witness in Nepal and in ... France !
The team responded maturely and in unity; we are convinced of the value of telling what the Lord has done, through writing, and in Nepal, to our friends and the villagers.

A handful of us are planning another trip for March 13-26.  You can join us in prayer by registering on the news blog (at the bottom of page) or through a financial donationthat will help provide for us go.

In our partnership with the Nepal, we have made a Bible school a priority for the coming years. This school trains many Nepalese who are preparing for ministry in the northwestern part of the country. Several churches have been established through this. It is likely that Thierry and a few members of a church in Grenoble will return in January 2017 in order to strengthen the partnership.

Valerie's employment

Valérie has courageously worked to supplement our needed support. She was touched by the kindness that the migrants shared with her before Christmas. We have seen that the role of Valerie is much deeper than simply teaching; it is a landmark in the lives of many migrants, sometimes in a very difficult context (homeless, alcoholism, lack of security...).

May the Lord lead Valérie in this work that is a true ministry.

Jonathan, Lucas and Silas

Jonathan and Lucas face major challenges since both must already make decisions for their academic futures.  Two major opportunities are emerging and we see real potential for each of them.

We were proud of Jonathan during the project in Nepal, Thierry observed his faith in action and how it progresses in terms of maturity. He also knows how to help encourage his friends towards constructive projects and has a natural testimony.

Lucas has an atypical personality, often outside the box, and it’s impossible to be bored;). Many agree that he has a real leadership potential, which we confirm. Lucas is really endearing and we often spend moments of pure fun together.

Silas knows his place in all this. He brings a lot of joy in the house and raises many relevant issues. We see how the Lord has already forged a part of his character! His love of life, his kindness, his gentleness, his creativity, and endless curiosity are telling.
MAY OUR HOME NEVER CEASE TO SERVE THE LORD :)

News of the vine

S. began small groups with us! Her story is incredible and we want you to share it with you!

During the Discover Bible Study that we did together, we found she has a connection with Erino Dapozzo, a man of faith well known by our Swiss friends. S. is his niece!

It only takes one generation for the Christian heritage to disappear from a family, but the Lord obviously has a plan for S. and her family. :) He has not forgotten them!

Recently S. had a minor operation.  Members of the small group told her they’d been praying for her.  “For me?”  she said.  “That’s too nice!  I am so happy to have met you…”  May the Lord bless S. and her family.

Location change

We are at a key stage in the life of the church. We see people growing significantly and others coming to the Gospel. We believe that the acquisition of a building is a wise and necessary step to continue to strengthen the church project.

We now find ourselves facing some administrative and financial issues to resolve. We place these issues in God’s hands with the conviction that He will work wonders! At this point, the issues with this particular project are out of our control....

Our support

We see great things emerging from many of the young people that we have followed in recent years, including a young woman who is very dear to us who is currently serving on the mission field in North Africa.

Each day we experience the grace of God and we want to encourage these initiatives by others.  They represent a new generation of creative and committed disciples and in turn inspire other generations.

A new stage of the church plant

Is this email not displaying correctly?
View it in your browser.

A new stage of the church plant

We are now entering a new phase of the church plant since we’ve passed the birthing stage of this project.  There are multiple indicators of our progression:

  • The culture of discipleship/community is established
  • The number of contacts has multiplied
  • People are turning to Christ
  • We are now cramped in our current space

This year will present a new challenge for the community of Aix and we hope that the culture of discipleship will permeate the church in all areas.

Planting a church requires working in various phases with different priorities.  Beginning in September, we will try to focus on several areas:

  • Prayer
  • Training leaders
  • Ministry to families
  • Intensifying our evangelistic efforts

Changing space

We are forced to leave our office space as it’s become too small and no longer meets our needs.  An opportunity has presented itself and it corresponds exactly with our criteria (location, size, potential, price, downtown)!

The young community of Aix is considering a loan that is sustainable, but for this to be possible, we must have a down payment of 80,000€ ($100,000).

If you’d like to partner with us in this step of faith, we’d be happy to share with you the various options of how you can play an active role in this project.

News of the vine

Here are some stories of those God’s entrusted us with for now:
  • G. has grown in his faith by leaps and bounds in the recent months and was baptized in June.
  • AC is the girlfriend of G.  His growth in recent months led her to confess her faith publicly.  We want to be by her side day after day in her life as a disciple.
  • We will have the joy of celebrating the marriage of G. and AC. at the end of the month.  It’s beautiful to see the journey of this promising young couple…
  • Following a themed evening we organized by the lake in Aix with the help of a team from Boston (GENESIS), a young man of 19, J., took an important step.  Please pray for J. and Jordan who will follow up with him one-on-one.  Thank you, GENESIS team, for your investment with us!
  • S. is a friend of the family and also has the distinction of being our son’s teacher.  Before the summer she expressed a desire to learn more about the Bible.  Thanks for praying for this opportunity and for the moments that we’ll spend with her reading the Bible.
  • M. will no longer be our office neighbor, but we will keep our friendship.  His son had the opportunity to stay with our boys at Champfleuri last winter, and he wants to repeat his experience again this winter.
  • If you’d like to hear other stories and to pray for the people involved, please let us know and we’d be happy to add your name to our project’s prayer letter.
Thank you for your prayers !

Welcoming a new intern

We are happy to welcome Joël Hirschy for an internship with IBG.  Joël will join us in mid-September and will invest in several ministries (evangelism, working with the youth…)

Joël is the son of friends that we've met and deeply appreciate through Isenfluh. May the Lord equip him for this internship.

Summer projects

Thierry and Lucas had the opportunity to participate on a mission trip to Albania this July.  Philippe was the other leader for this project.

It was an opportunity for Thierry and Philippe to lead a project with a promising new generation.  These mission trips are true tests of a disciple and this recent experience again confirmed their value.

The next trip to Nepal will be with Jonathan and a team of 20 people.
Thierry also hopes to welcome a team from Albania next spring.

LEAD 2015 put our faith to the test.  The project was initially scheduled for Tunisia, but due to the attacks in Sousse, it seemed wise to change our plans in order to protect those in Tunisia who had planned to host us.

The leaders worked hard and rose to the challenge.  In the end, the team participated in a church plant in Ireland via London and Calais.  Good work Annaelle, Bruno, Tobias and Nadine !  :)

Our support

We are grateful for the network of people and churches that support our ministry in many ways.  Thank you for your perseverance and for the love that you show us so well.

Frankly, the news is simple :  Valérie must find a job by the end of October.  Since church planting requires a ministry of hospitality, we don’t want a job that will exhaust all of her energy.  We are confident that the Lord will respond according to His grace.

Here you can find information on how to support us on our blog.

The importance of the vine

The trellis and the vine

This book is a gold mine ! Starting with a simple image, it focuses on the essential. Our team is currently studying it, and our vision has been renewed...

Check it out and pass it on !

Discipleship

We are working on a culture of discipleship at Aix-les-Bains. We are already seeing fruit... One key is found in dynamic and flexible small groups centered around 3 elements :
  • Prayer
  • Scriptures
  • Challenge to put it into practice
An excellent ressource has been put online under the direction of Raphael Anzenberger at  www.disciples.fr. The resource offers a perspective on the choice of ecosystem of discipleship in the local church.

News of the vine

Here are those whom the Lord has entrusted us with currently :
  • G. is a young Christian who is thirsty for the Word.  Thierry and G. Are working through materials from SLS, his progress is noticeable, and he shares his faith easily with those around him.  He is hoping to be baptized in the Spring.
  • A.C. Is G.'s girlfriend.  She is watching the changes in G. and asking herself questions about faith.  After two evening get togethers, A.C. decided to investigate the faith through a Christian discovery course that Johanna began last week.
  • G. and A.C. are considering marriage.  We have offered to walk them through what the Bible teaches about marriage.  We will begin the beginning of January.
  • R. & S., a young couple with two boys, came to one of our celebrations out of curiosity through some Christian friends.  After this visit, Jordan and Thierry had lunch with R., who said that he and S. were wondering about baptism for their children.  We offered to study with them what the Bible has to say about baptism.  They said they would not only like to study about baptism, but also about marriage and wanted to become part of a small group!  R. is a chef and has already offered to prepare the meal for the Christmas celebration for the church in Aix-les-Bains.
  • E. is a young, 22 year old woman who Kate and Jordan met occasionally in Musilac.  Kate continues to see E. who is clearly looking for God.  Kate was able to speak to her about the Gospel and hopes to share with her a study of "Seven Stories of Hope", a study that looks at 7 key passages in the Gospels.
  • M. is a neighbor at the office.  He comes almost every day to have a cup of coffee together.  Saturday, we had an evening film debate with Bruno, Jonathan, and Lucas.  M. came with his two children, and we were able to raise the issues of key Biblical values.  The enthusiasm for this evening has lead us to organize more video evenings where Jonathan and Lucas hope to invite their friends.
  • Kate has started English conversation groups after several requests from her contacts.  The first meeting took place at a cafe in the city, and 8 women shared in this quality time.
  • FrFred has met several people through coaching.  Coaching has become a great way to serve people, and the church plant has benefitted from it.
  • We have many other stories like this that we will continue to share with you in future blogs...
Thank you for your prayers !

An office in the heart of the non-profits office ?

Our non-profit chaplaincy (Protestant Family Association) has been approved and allows us the opportunity to offer academic help to a challenging neighborhood in the city.  We are trying this initiative in partnership with the city just until Christmas.

At the same time, we have applied to have an office among the non-profit associations.  This would be an excellent chance to us to actively participate in the communal life of the city.

News from Prison

Thierry discovered an incredible world behind bars and meets new prisoners each week.  He was able to share the Gospel with several of them over the past months, and three of them have asked for follow-up or have accepted a Bible.

Mirone's News

Ruth 2:20

The events of recent months have put our faith to the test (the death of Valerie’s mom, support, church planting), and, at this moment, the statement of Naomi in Ruth 2:20 resonates with us.

Naomi was able to see God's hand in difficult circumstances and focus on the hope that only God can give. This is what we are experiencing.

Suzanne

Valerie's mother died on July 15. In her last moments of consciousness, we had the opportunity to read Psalm 23 together.
After explaining once again the hope that God gives, we offered to pray with her. She grabbed our hands, expressing a firm yes. That moment was the last time that Suzanne was truly with us.
Suzanne was a model of caring mom who always supported our ministry, even when she did not understand the meaning.

Church Plant in Aix-les-Bains

In June, the church was officially recognized in Aix-les-Bains.
Our project is now finalized and the church has placed discipleship at the heart of our approach. The next steps should lead us to develop two particular church ministries: evangelism and teaching.

Baptism of Jonathan

Jonathan has grown in his faith, which was confirmed by the counselors at the TED camp that he attended in July. We are pleased to see our oldest son be baptized soon.  His baptism is scheduled for the afternoon of September 14 in the lake of Aix-les-Bains.

Welcoming Bruno

We will soon welcome a new intern for two years.  Bruno Rinaldo will complete his second cycle with IBG in Aix-les-Bains.  He is full of ideas and his profile corresponds to the phase that we are approaching with our church plant. We also want to offer him an internship that will allow him to grow and progress in his own development.

Inauguration

What do the Deputy Mayor, the Vice-President, and a Rosalie have in common?

They each made an appearance at the inauguration of our church, Le Rivage.

Friday night we hosted a ceremony and BBQ as a way of being officially recognized by the city.  While an inauguration is usually meant for new buildings, this particular inauguration was to symbolize the commencement of our church as a community.  Though we've been meeting as a church for over a year, being officially recognized by the government officials in France is very important.

After our teammate, Thierry, described our vision (to love God and the city, to live in community, and to share the Good News with the world), Daniel Liechti, Vice-President of CNEF (the Evangelical Council in France), shared a few ways that other churches have served communities across France.  Then, the mayor of Aix-les-Bains, a practicing catholic, affirmed our work.

"With a secular country like France, why is the mayor at the inauguration of a church?" the mayor posed.  "Laïcité [secularism] is not about closing our eyes, ears, and arms to religion," he said, "but it's to cause us to be opened to all religions."

We thank God for the good relationship that we have with the mayor of Aix-les-Bains.  He is happy to participate in the opening of a new [evangelical] church - particularly one that is eager to serve the city and its inhabitants.

More than 50 people were present to celebrate this momentous occasion - friends from other churches in the region, new friends from our office building, and other contacts from the city.  Though Jordan and I still struggle to wrap our minds around the grand importance of this event, it was definitely a great evening that led to many more contacts for us and our church.

June 2014

Dear friends and partners,

Our new young church in Aix-les-Bains will be officially inaugurated on june 27th.
Please pray that the Lord would be glorified by this way.

Inmate Words

This week, Thierry had the privilege of starting a new ministry in a local prison, which he will continue half a day per week.

One inmate who told Thierry that, since his incarceration, he had become fully aware of his condition, his need for God, and has been devouring the Bible every day for nearly 2 years.

During the discussion, the prisoner described Jesus as a maître d, someone who welcomes us to a place we don’t deserve. From the mouth of a prisoner with a long sentence in a dilapidated prison, these words have an overwhelming resonance!

We invite you to pray for these inmates that Thierry gets to meet every week; may everyone know the grace offered in Jesus Christ!

Thought of the Day – Matthew 24:
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

February 2014

God is building His Church in Aix-les-Bains!

With an established, visible presence in the town, we are ready to make ourselves known, as both a church - Le Rivage - and as a Protestant Family Association (helping local families in need).

Christmas event

Located in a large enterprise building, our offices allow us to cross paths regularly with many people.  Just a few days before Christmas, we opened our doors and offered homemade cookies and coffee to our office “neighbors” in an attempt to know them and be known.  It was a great success!  (Money donated went towards our humanitarian work in Nepal.)

Coffee and cookie event

Earlier this month we hosted our first Discover Bible Group – 8 people attended!  Though it may not seem like much, God’s hand is evident in this ministry as we continue to meet People of Peace (Luke 10) – people who are opened to us and opened to spiritual conversations – including the deputy mayor.  With the mayor’s help, we hope to have even more ways of being the hands and feet of Jesus in Aix-les-Bains.  May we be bold in proclaiming the name of Jesus wherever we go!

Church-planting Team

February 24 marks one year of celebration services in this city, and we are continually amazed by God’s faithfulness.  Our church is young; it’s small and fragile, but, as another church-planter recently said, “I’ve never met a new born who wasn’t.”

Prayer Requests:
  • Boldness in sharing the Gospel and inviting people to make decisions for Jesus
  • Opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus
  • Wisdom in leading the Church and Family Association

Video presentation of the project

August 2013

Thank you Lord :)

The Team is complete !

What seemed far off has come to reality in just a handful of months. We thank God for this great team and appreciate the community that is already forming at Aix.

This fall will be a key period during which we focus on :

  • Deepening our knowledge of the city and its habitants
  • Praying that our ministry initiatives will be effective and adapted to the needs of the city
  • Constructing a good base for all our future projects
We live close to Aix les Bains !

The lord directed us to the only house for sale in our budget, in a small community of Aix, 12 minutes from downtown. Our first days and weeks there, meeting our neighbors for the first time, confirmed that we are well-situated for our church-plant project. We also have enough room in the new house to welcome a young student to stay with us. He has been a part of the discipleship ministry with Thierry and has participated in several projects with him. He will be with us next year.

There is a bit more work to do on the house than we had originally planned, but we are praying that we could get these projects taken care of very soon, especially the work on the heating system.

It is a great encouragement to us to open our shudders every morning and be able to look out on the community of Rumilly and the whole valley where we would like to see the gospel proclaimed. It is a symbol to us of the need of pray over this valley and a daily reminder to do so.

Encouraging Friendships along the way !

We were very touched by the numerous gestures of friendship shown to us during our recent move. Far from wanting to keep all this generosity for ourselves, we want these acts to encourage us to give to others, especially in this Valley of Aix les Bains.

Key dates to remember !

April 2013

Ec 3.11 "He has made everything beautiful in his time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done beginning to the end"

The will of God is irresistible

We are happy to announce that the Lord has clearly responded to our prayers this week. Thank you to all who have encouraged us daily in this wonderful challenge to plant a church in Aix-les-Bains.

3 offers in 3 days

We have been conviced that God called us to this project, but the impossibility of moving tested our faith. We knew that without something happening before the end of May, we would have to rethink our involvement with the project !
Result : 3 offers in 3 days... We have chosen a lovely young couple, parents of little Arthur, 4 months old.

Housing found in 3 days

The second challenge was to find housing immediately with a budget that the housing agencies in Aix labeled as "poor"... only 2 housing offers seemed to match our budget, but one of them needed too much work, and we wanted to focus on church planting. We had no choice but to put in a low offer on the only remaining offer, which was accepted.

Thanksgiving and prayer

We have seen God's hand and perfect timing in this that has confirmed our calling for this project. Our new house will allow us to continue to practice what we love, hospitality !

Our new house needs a few repairs for which we need to find financing (new heater, installing a skylight, fixing the bathroom, repair of the garage slab...)

Thank you for your faithfulness and your prayer support,
La famille Mirone

We are now engaged in a great challenge at Aix les Bains !

It's wonderful to see the progress made month after month, often week after week, and even day after day. The picture, far from being completely focused, is constantly evolving and the team is moving forward with the conviction that God knows what He has planned in this city and in the region in general.

At this moment, all of the team is trying to move to Aix les Bains and it is at this stage that we are experiencing the greatest challenge.  We have arrived at a strategic moment where our move remains a miracle and we pray to see the hand of God work on our behalf in this situation.  We are convinced that there are solutions and we want to have a listening ear to hear what God says.

In the meantime, we are making many trips to Aix les Bains and we are encouraged to see God's work already underway in this city.

Our Prayer Requests :

1. Move to Aix les Bains -- this is a major step of faith for us because we must sell our house in Albertville and then find a house to buy in Aix les Bains, a process which is long and complicated in France. We must sell the house by May in order to have enough time to complete all the paperwork necessary to be able to buy one in Aix les Bains before school starts again for the boys the first of September.  PLEASE PRAY that God would bring a buyer very soon for our house in Albertville and that He would lead us to just the right neighborhood and house in Aix les Bains.

2. Ministry vehicle -- beginning in May, Thierry needs to find a vehicle suitable for ministry, reliable and not very expensive.  Pray the Lord would lead him to the right vehicle, from a reputable seller and at a great price.

Luke 5:18-20
Just then some men showed up, carrying aparalyzed man  on a stretcher.  They  were trying to bring him in and place him before Jesus. But  since they found  no way to carry him in because of the crowdthey went up on the roof  and let him down on the stretcher through the roof tiles right in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith he said“Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

Here is an excerpt of a passage from the next sermon preached at Aix. This text fascinates me, as the actions of these men takes great faith and Jesus responds with great compassion. One can only imagine how much faith it took for these men to act on and carry out  this "foolishness."  We pray that our team can bring many stretchers to Jesus in Aix-les-Bains.

Back to school 2012, several perspectives...

Dear Friends and Partners,

We are at a strategic moment in our ministry... We will have more precise informations for our church planting project in Aix-les-Bains very soon.

  • the youth work with France Mission's Youth Department, we are entering the last stage of formulating a systematic program of support and discipleship for youth
Offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life,
and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness"
Romans 6:13
